As a jeweler, I have found that much of jewelry today is designed with the viewer, not the wearer, in mind. Craftsmanship and the piece as a whole are often neglected, while only the visible surfaces receive any kind of attention. I began to believe that because of this, these flat objects quickly loose their luster and end up nothing more than a tangle of beads and chains in our junk drawers.
My goal became to create jewelry that is beautiful in more dimensions than one. I want to give life to objects with more character, surprise, and unlikely details… Jewelry where the back and inside matter as much, if not more, than the front.
In this series of one of a kind pieces, my designs involve movement, play, exploration, and multiple points of interest. Using contrasting forms, materials, and unexpected elements, counterparts to the object’s first impression are created, making each multi-faceted piece more valued for its depth and complexity.
